Tiny Tim: My, what a funny little world this is!

Tiny Tim (1932-1996) on eräs 60-luvun lopulla uransa aloittaneista Greenwich Villagen muusikoista - mietin tosiaan pitkään kirjoitanko sittenkin komedikko - koska siitä ei voi olla varma kuinka tosissaan mies oli esiintyessään. Tiny Timin tavaramerkkeihin kuuluivat vahvalla vibraatolla ryyditetty korviavihlova falsettoääni sekä aloittelijamaisesti soitettu ukulele. Ensilevyn raita "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" ja useat esiintymiset amerikkalaisissa varietee-ohjelmissa jättivät kuitenkin niin vahvat jäljet, että vieläkin vakavasti ukulelea soittavat muusikot (esim. Bob Brozman) pilailevat Tiny Timin kustannuksella. Eräässä videopätkässä Bob Brozman toteaa: "I'll try to undo the damage Tiny Tim did for ukulele..."

Alla olevassa musiikkipätkässä on näyte Tiny Timin musiikista. Pätkä on nauhoitettu Monterey Pop -musiikkifestivaalin aikana Hunt Clubilla Summer of Loven kuumimpana aikana, kesäkuun puolivälissä 1967. Hunt Clubilla (jota oli festivaalin VIP takahuone) Tiny Tim esitti ainakin neljä numeroa(katso myös videopätkä postin lopussa), vanhoja 1910- ja 20-luvun vaudevillelauja omannäköiseksi väännettynä. Musiikkinäyte on hyvä osoitus siitä kuinka outo Tiny Tim todellisuudessa oli. Samalla siitä heijastuu laulun protestisanomat kautta herkkyyttä ja persoonallisuutta, jonka kynttilän valossa pienelle yleisölle esiintyessään Tiny Tim osasi löytää. Tiny Timillä oli jotain selittämätöntä intoa ja lahjakkuutta, joille "normaalilla maailmalla" ei koskaan ole ollut käyttöä.
