Simon & Garfunkel: America

Seuraavaa laulua tuskin tarvitsee todistaa suureksi useilla sanoilla. Se on folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkelin hitti vuodelta 1968. Kappale kertoo fyysisen ja metafoorisen matkan, jonka tarkoituksena rakastavaisten on löytää Amerikan todellinen olemus. Metaforallisella tasolla esiin tulee rakastavaisten sen hetkinen toivottomuus, joka tulee esille sanoissa "Let us be lovers..", joka kuitenkin muuttuu lopummalla tunteeksi surullisuudesta ja turhautumisesta - luultavasti pari päätyykin eroon ("I'm empty and aching and I don't know why"). Toisella tasolla laulu kertoo ajatukselta löytää Amerikka, joka vääjäämättä johtaa New Yorkiin. Kun rakastavaiset matkaavat itäänpäin - Michiganista Pittsburgiin ja sitten New Jerseyyn - ollaan risteyksessä, josta Iso-omenan portit ja kyltit jo alkavat näkyä.
